Top image: At the Merville Battery, in Normandy, France, a C-47 Skytrain of the USAAF stands in a field. This aircraft, Serial 43-15073, is an actual veteran of the D-Day invasion on 6 June 1944. It flew with the 440th Troop Carrier Group and dropped paratroops of the 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment (101st Airborne Division) south of Sainte Mere Eglise.
